Welcome to

Lilith Rising

Lilith Rising is an informal (dis-)organization of women in Toronto and other nearby areas involved with computer technology — girl geeks, web women, digital divas, or just plain females who work with computers, either for a living, as a passion, or both.

Most of us are former members of DigitalEve Toronto and/or Toronto Webgrrls, but this is NOT the same organization as either of those... though it could be said to be an outgrowth of the same community. We don't aspire to do everything that those late, lamented groups attempted — we're more concerned with keeping our goals simple, sustainable and realistic. Our primary focus is providing an online discussion space for women via our mailing lists, in order to fill the niche left vacant by the collapse of DigitalEve Toronto and its lists... and then building this site into a valuable information resource.

Why the name? Well, we did grow out of the ashes of DigitalEve Toronto, and in folklore Lilith was Adam's first wife, who was kicked out of Eden for refusing to be submissive to him. Eve and Lilith have often been juxtaposed as examples of the obedient, submissive "good girl" and the fierce independent woman. So it seemed like an interesting choice of name for us... And yes, we do know that Lilith ended up being regarded as a demoness, but we all have our off days. :-)

If you would like to be a part of Lilith Rising, please join one or more of our mailing lists, via the links below. We have no formal system of membership, no dues, no annual general meetings, no by-laws or bureaucracy — just a group of like-minded women interested in making things happen. If that suits you, welcome aboard!
